The engine is overheating on checking it was discovered that the fan is not working and there is need to check if the thermostat is good or bad but could not find it.Where is the location for the car cooling system thermostat.

I also want to know if the thermostat is responsible to start the fan after certain temperature have been reached.

Does the engine overheat if you are driving at highway speeds, or is it only when in stop and go traffic?

I just wanted to make sure before you put money into it that wasn't needed. If it overheats all the time, chances are it is the thermostat. I would also recommend flushing the radiator and cooling system when you replace the thermostat. A partially plugged radiator could cause the same problem.
