A few weeks ago I started to hear a slight knocking sound from under the front end while driving. It makes this sound while I am steering (car moving) or not moving. It is not the struts as there is no noise going over a speed bump.

With the car shut down, not running, when I turn the steering wheel back and forth, one can hear a clicking sound coming from around the rubber boot area of the power steering rack and pinion towards the tie rod ends.

I’m thinking the tie rod ends. If you too think this, is there any thing I can do? Tightening, lubing?

There does not seem to be any grease fittings on the car. I replaced the sway bar rods a few years ago, with ones that can be lubed. I greased these four fittings and it did not stop the noise.

Is there any way I can jack the car up to test where the noise is coming from? I would like to be more informed before I go to a professional.

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Yes you can jack up the car by following this guide.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/jack-up-and-lift-your-car-safely

Then have someone move the steering wheel while you get under it after jack stands are in place.

Use a flashlight becasue that will help too.

Here is a guide that will show you what you are in for when doing the outer

The inner you will need to do this and use a special socket the auto parts will lend you for free.

Please let us know what happens.

I took the car to a mechanic and was told that it is the right inner tie rod end. He said for me to order the parts and he would put them on for me.

Thanks for everything
