Just curious if someone could explain why I need to turn this knob under my steering wheel to engage 4wd after I engage my transfer case. If I do not turn this knob all the way to the right my 4wd doesn’t work. I’ve just never seen this kind of set up before and was like that when I bought It.

Hello, I'm Danny,

Could you please if you have the opportunity to show us this by uploading a video with the problem with your phone and uploading that here? It would really help us out. That sounds bizarre. Any further information could help us diagnose the problem. Thanks for using 2CarPros and hope to hear back from you soon.

This looks to be the same thing.

Amazing!

We start out with a lever for 40 years, move it, boom! We are in four wheel drive! We know whether we are in 4x4 or not because the lever is either in position or not. Duh!

Then we add on a vacuum actuator or a motor, for those who don't like the strain of moving the lever in the floor. It uses more moving parts, relies on other parts to tell you if it engaged or not. After a while these parts get stuck, jammed, etc. Leaving one to go to a shop or buy expensive parts.

With this find, looks like we like the mechanical way once again! This time it has to be a little more complicated just to get back down there (Where the lever used to be) to make that puppy shift.

I'm thinking about introducing a lever back down there, I wonder if it would go over well?
