I have a been smelling weird smell not gas but like exhaust fumes from my kia. I have 2 catalytic converters. The mechanic at the dealership kia I took it too said they need to be replaced I don't have the money its over 1600 I been driving this for over a year now with the check engine light on. Am I in danger? I feel weird now after so long driving it this way. I roll the windows up at the stoplight so the exhaust fumes cant get in the car and leave them down on the highway.

Are you experiencing a loss of power? Have you had the computer scanned to identify if what he is saying is correct? Most parts stores will do it for free. NOTE: If the converters are bad, usually there is a major power loss. What you are describing to me sounds like a rich fuel mixture, but eventually that could damage the converters.

Let me know.

Joe:

Looks like yes I had the computer scanned by another mechanic and autozone. All saying evap large leak. Daves auto service says same thing the 02 sensor detects catalatic converters bad. Weird you responded yesterday. Its been a while since my last post with no response. Today I took it to Express Auto and they said they could do a diagnostic check which I already had done at Dave's and they said after I pay them another 100.00 they would be able to tell me if they could get universal converters. I'm not paying another 100.00 for diagnostic check and even if they give me I might be able to replace it. Why are all shops try to scam people. Me and my son are going to get sick from the exhaust smell. Like a weird smell coming out.

Thanks
Michelle

Okay, I have two different things here. First, the EVAP code, large leak, is usually a leak between the gas cap, fuel system, and engine. Does it smell like fuel?

As far as the converter, is there a major power loss?

Let me know. Sorry it took so long to get back with you, but there are so many posts to read. Now that we started, I will get back to you the same day because I check my email about 10 times a day.

Let me know.

Joe
