Recently learned that my car has the option for key-less entry. Went online, bought a remote based on the information in the owners manual. Tried to follow the procedure to program, and no luck. For the 1997, you have to pull the mirror adjustment switch, jumper a purple wire with a white/black. Problem is, there is no purple wire. I did more research, and read there is a dealer install system available. Looked for the box for it, and cannot find it anywhere. Not under seats, not behind glove box, not behind mirror switch, not under dash. Called the local Toyota dealer, they claim my car has key-less entry (looked up by VIN), but cannot see if it is factory or dealer. Thoughts?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

If they looked it up by VIN and it indicates it has it, then it was made with it. Otherwise, it would not indicate it using the VIN.

Since I am not there, this is a tough one, but here is what I have: First, a schematic of the key-less entry system. The second picture is of the power mirror connector and the wireless door lock ECU.

The next three pictures are for trouble shooting the system. Perhaps there may be something there that helps.

Picture 6 is for the location of the wireless door lock ECU.

Picture 7 is for all Toyota vehicle's ECM location. Interestingly, at the bottom of the picture it says 1997 and 1998 model years are under the seat, but the picture is for 1998 and 1999 models are on the left side, behind the dash. It is possible your vehicle was made late in the year and there was a redesign it received that most 1997's did not.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

I am not entirely sure the car does have key-less. I have attached the build sheet from the Toyota owners website and it does not mention key-less.

Hi William. I see what you mean. If that is the build sheet for your vehicle, it did not come with it. I cannot believe the dealer told you it did. Are you able to return the parts you purchased?
