I have the vehicle listed above, XE, and the key won’t disengage. The car is in park, but the key won’t come out. I have concluded where the issue lies in the shift assembly. There is a micro switch that has either gone bad or going bad. My question is, can switch be bypassed all together there are two red wires soldered to the micro switch, which contains a lever which depresses a button that when placed in park, the solenoid is supposed to release the key, but the switch is malfunctioning. I have changed the shifter twice during my ownership of the vehicle. I’m tired of replacing shifters so if someone can direct me in the correct direction of bypassing or removing the switch altogether to bring back my peace of mind that would be awesome.

Thanks for the images they help. That micro switch is not factory equipment. Here are the shift lock wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. Also, can you hear the shift lock solenoid working when you press the brake pedal? Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

The micro switch is on every shifter made by GM for Saturn. So, I’m confused about how it wouldn’t be factory equipment. I can hear it the shift lock solenoid when I press the brake pedal. The issue is the key won’t release in the steering wheel keeps locking. Is there a way to remove the micro switch from the shifter assembly without causing issue? Is there also a way to disengage or disable the steering lock mechanism that locks the steering wheel?

Hmmm never seen a roll pin like that used in production. There might be a way to bypass the system you will need to upload more images so I can look at it.
