Hi,
If it indicates the key is not recognized, I need you to have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. There are a number of possible issues. The one thing I can suggest is to check the wireless ignition node fuse. It is fuse number 121 and located in the fuse box in the vehicle. See the two pics below.
When you check the fuse, first make sure it isn't blown. If it is good, then I need you to confirm there is power to and from it. Here is a link you may find helpful when testing:

Because of the model year, I strongly recommend having the can-bus system scanned. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. This procedure will identify any codes stored regardless of which module is involved.
Here is a video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner that can do this. However, I feel it is important because the can-bus is involved with the ignition system. You could contact local parts store and see if they have one they will lend you.
Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, if you have a spare key, please try it as well.
Take care,
Joe
