Okay, so someone stole my key fob with remote start for my car and I am wondering how I would disable that so they can't get into my car? Also I ordered a new key fob on Amazon and am wondering how you program them to work on my car without bringing it to a locksmith?

The only way to make that key fob not work is to change the remote access module. I don't know if a dealership can change the frequency with a scanner thus you would not have to replace it. You could call and ask them.

As for the new key fob, if you bought a programmable key fob then the instructions to do so will be with it. If it was not programmable then a dealership will have to program it for you.

To add to the above. To stop the old fob. The easiest would be to have a locksmith or the dealer use a scan tool to go into the fob programming routine and simply erase all of the old key fob codes. Then program in any new or existing ones you have.

You can't use just any scan tool. The scan tool has to have dealership level access to the PCM to actually make changes and not just read engine data. These tools start around $5,000.00 and go up from there.

This is why we said take it to a dealer. There are some shops that have these scanners but you have to call and ask.

I'm going to assume if the person that has this scanner doesn't know what to do then its probably not and access scanner.

As Rich says, some shops have the tools to do key and fob programming, many don't as they are not cheap and most times are not needed. As for the actual programming, most of the tools actually walk you through the process once you are in the security system. I know both of the ones I use have the steps in them. Most of the time it's something like, Select this button to erase all keys or fobs, Now click this button and push and hold lock unlock or similar. When you hear the locks cycle select this box. The trick is having the tool and access.
