I have a 1998 wrangler that was hit in the front then repaired (if that matters) The check engine light is on all the time it runs good at times then will
have no power with backfire at cruising speed
almost like it is running out of gas. At times the gauge panel goes dead, no speedo, tach, temp,
oil press, ect the truck still will run though.
when idling the truck seems to be choking itself out
running way rich. Does anyone have a clue where to start?

Thanks

EGR valve would be a good place to start. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) should only occur in metered amounts when the car is above idle speed. Preferably if this piece of emissions crap was always off that would be great but even when working properly its operation should not be noticed. Now you should get a diagnostic scanner to make sure that you have nothing wrong with your computer and if the crash concerns you enough (and it should if it made your airbags deploy) then I would consider what all could have been damaged in the accident.
