See my profile...Imma CJ Guy
As your engine wears----it does exactly as you described.
I would not worry until you hit about 15 PSI OR Stuff begins to rattle!
The local Production, Auto-Machine Shop Owner (a friend)...[We're not sleeping together, nothing like that!]........Told me that MOST engines are OK down to 4 PSI, before damage occurs!
However, I would NEVER let mine go that long!
Things that might help....Things I do....Every oil change gets a quart of OIL STABILIZER----$$$...NO OBJECT....only the best for "Mr. Jeep" and "WILLY"
'77 CJ 5 "Mr. Jeep"
'46 Willys "WILLY".....No Sissy Names for a "MANLY" VEHICLE
When you do replace your OIL PUMP----see if a HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP IS AVAILABLE for your engine.
"Mr. Jeep" has a 258 6 cyl. (4.2L)......He has H.V. Pump (2nd engine w/ many miles).....O.P. 30 at idle.....40-60 on the move,
"WILLY" L-134 (flathead) 4 cyl....O.P. 40 at idle 50-80 on the move.....stock oil pump!
