Engine Performance problem
1996 Other Jeep Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 172000 miles

My Jeep Grand Cherokee has been having trouble starting. It started around the same time we had a cold snap and the car is left parked outside all the time. I can get it to start if I rev the engine, but when I take my foot off the accelerator it dies. The problem seems to be helped if I can put the car directly in drive, reverse seems to cause it to die more quickly. After running for a while it will stay running without accelerating but it still have very low rmp. I called a shop and they said it is an idle speed problem, but is there anything I could do myself. Would an oil change help?

the air idle valve is on the side of the throttle body and has 4 torx screws holding on.it is a little plunger that adjusts the idle when your foot is not on the gas. get your self a manual from a auto parts store, its a good thing to have if you plan on doing things yourself.the part is under 30 bucks and most important follow the reset instructions carefully.
