I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport with a 3.7L engine and 160,000 miles. It I don't use my fan when I have the heater on I can feel warm to hot air coming out of the vents depending on where I have the temp control. When I turn the fan on it will begin to blow cool air no matter where the temp control is.

160,000 on a 2006? Have you done a coolant flush and fill? Also while you are at it replace the thermostat.

I would check the hoses going in and out of the heater core. The inlet hose should be hot with engine warmed up. The other hose should also be hot but not as hot as the inlet hose because of the temperature drop across the heater core. You didnt mention if this happens at idle or higher rpms if that is the case sometimes at slower speeds the coolant doesnt circulate as much and it will feel cooler when the rpm comes back up it will again feel hot, This can also happen if the coolant level is low. The coolant will be starved from the heater core at slow speeds.
