My brakes were making this terrible grinding sound last week, sounded like a giant rock was wedged between the wheel. It made it when I applied the brakes or sometimes just while driving slow. I assumed I needed new pads. But this week I started it and went to drive, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and does not stop the jeep at all. The brake light warning is on, in my dash. The E -brake works. I want to replace the master Cylinder, as well as the pads. Will this resolve the problem?

Before replacing the master cylender, check all brakes. You could have a bad wheel cylender, rusted brake line, bad rubber brake hose. Check for leaks first.

Let me know what you find.

You could also have air in the line which would prevent the brakes from grabbing. However, the grinding sound seems to be like the pads are rubbing constantly. The calipers might not be working properly and they might be sticking. I would have it checked out by a friend who is mechanically inclined that knows brakes well.
