Electrical problem
1984 Jeep CJ7 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

The instr. Lights will not work when the light switch comes on. The volt meter also pegs o volts when the light switch is pulled out. The vehicle is charging fine at all times. Don't know what the problem is.

See my profile and "1985 CJ 7 Stalls When Hot" (14 reponses) and other CJ 5/7 posts in their forums. You will see the extent I am willing to help you with this and any other CJ problem!

Where are you placing your POS--NEG Voltmeter leads?

It really (off the top of my head) Sounds like a BAD LIGHT SWITCH.

On the other hand, maybe a shorted wire or accessory.

Have you recently done ANYTHING, that might have pinched a wire, or screwed a screw into one?

A much overlooked place, is your dimmer switch, it ONLY controls Low and High Beams (nothing else, no taillights, nothing!)

It may have CRAP all around the plug----Or at least it could be unplugged (unplug and then try the switch, results?), Thus ELIMINATING a short in the wires to your headlights ( the center hot, would still be in play, up to the switch)Generally if something happens to the dimmer, you either have no lights or they Flash inconsistantly while driving at night! (Bad situation!)
