I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, inline 6, w approx. 75000 miles. I have not had any transmission issues with this vehicle, But when my wife got to work today it would not engage park. (i.e. still rolls)
I checked the transmission fluid, it is fine, good level, and color no signs of deterioration. I adjusted the shift cable to no avail. I drove the vehicle and the transmission is not showing any problems, no noises or slipping issues. I checked the park, and neutral switches they appear fine. The shifter is moving all the way into park, because I can remove the key.
What should I check next? I checked with my wife and she assured me that she did not accidently shift into park while moving, so I wouldn't think it would be the park gear. Can that gear just break under normal conditions? Could this be caused by the Transmission range sensor?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
