Jeep stalling problem

I have a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 69,450 miles and lately it has been idling rough and stalling out. The stalling usually occurs right before I come to a complete stop at a light or stop sign, expecially going uphill. I've had the idle air control cleaned and a tune-up done but none of that has solved my problem. From what I am told the fuel filter is internal to the fuel pump. Is the fuel filter the problem? I've had the jeep a year and a half and it has never been changed. Do I need to change the whole fuel pump to fix this?

Sorry for the late reply.

Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Yes, the filter and pressure regulator show to be mounted to fuel pump assemble. You can remove the filter without removing the pump, but, you still have to drop the tank. If your going to drop the tank, you might as well replace the pump and everything.

There many things that can cause stalling/rough idle, crank sensor--idle air control valve--throttle position sensor--vacuum leak--egr where applicable, just to name a few.

Can you check for applicable trouble codes? You may be able to get some codes by cycling your ignition switch. Turn key just till the dash lites come on, no further. Cycle key on--off, on--off, on, then the mil on the dash starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

I realize this is an old post. You may no longer own this vehicle. In the future hope you don't have any vehicle issues, but, if you do, keep the site in mind. They are always working to improve the site and it's free.

Have a good day.
