Jeep Cherokee Country overheating

My father's 1996 Cherokee with the 4.0 L engine keeps overheating. The mechanic told him it had a blown head gasket and warped head, so we got that repaired. It has also had a new radiator installed, with all new hoses, a new water pump, and a new thermostat. Yet, with all that being repaired, it continues to overheat. With all that being replaced/repaired, what else could it be? Could the thermostat be bad already? Please help!

I will do that. However, he did not advise me until today that he had never had the serpentine belt replaced, and it was slipping badly. I replaced that today, and now we will see if that was the cause. He said that just short trips around town didn't cause it to overheat, but a trip of around 20 miles or so would cause it to overheat. Got me confused!

I am having the same problem with my 1994 Cherokee 4.0L. It does fine on the highway though, staying around 120 degrees, but when I'm in traffic, it doesn't take long for it to creep up almost to redline, (luckily I get out of traffic before that happens). The fan on the passenger side comes on as soon as the engine is started, not sure if it's electric or mechanical though. I've heard horror stories about air in the block, but I put a tee in the return line and bled the system, still no change. Could it be the water pump possibly? What else might I look at?

Thanks,

Kevin
