1997 Jeep Cherokee stalling

Can a stalling problem on my jeep be due to fuel pump or pcm screws in computer-- need to know the car starts fine-- drives a couple of miles at traffic lights cut off and while driving going about 60mph on highway I let out dk grey smoke out of tailpipe
