Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Jeep Cherokee 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My husband replace the crankshaft positon sensor, the throttle position sensor, the idle air control valve and my vehicle has the same problem. It has a high idle and will not start unless we pump the gas pedal or hold the pedal to the floor. We do hear the fuel pump engage. What do you think we should replace next? It also dies sometimes when I stop at stop sign. Please help we are stumped.

Thanks.

Just curious, any applicable mil codes? You cycle the key just till dash lites come on, no further, cycle the key, on--off, on--off, on--off, on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

No MIL codes and no check engine light. Sometimes it starts right up and sometimes you have to pump the gas pedal or hold it to the floor. It is a 6 cyl 4 liter. Thanks.

Are you saying the mil doesn't work? Also, use a gage and check fuel pressure, key on engine off and engine running. With everything turned off, does the pressure drop like a rock? Make sure the hvac controls are off before you start it.

The mil works fine. No codes. I don't have a pressure gauge to test with. I'm wondering about the fuel injectors themself. They are 130,000 miles and 15-16 years old.

Some of the national brand autostores may loan out a fuel pressure gage. If the injectors are leaking, the pressure gage should show it. That could cause a hard start.
