Computer problem
1997 Jaguar XJR 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 138xxx miles

hi I am having problems with my car. The car doesn't shift gears when in D. It won't do it manually either. I took the car to a transmission shop and they said the transmission was ok, and they said that they believe it was more of a electrical problem. I took the car then to a shop where they run a diagnostic and ended up saying that the transmission computer was the problem. So I bought a used one, and replaced my self the transmission computer (seen pretty easy just unplug and plug back the new one). Replacing the computer didn't solve anything the car wont shift gears. It came to my mind that maybe there is more involved in replacing the transmission computer than just unplugging and plugging back. I read the codes and are as follows: p1775 p0706 p0743 p0753 p0758 and also the scan tool said the following were pending codes p0706 p0743 p0753 p0758. Please help me out on this one. By the way the module I replaced is the one located on the passenger side right in front of the front door. Big red harness and also big black harness. The computer I got used comes from a 1995 xjr which has the same engine 6 cylinder supercharged. Thanks.

one more thing I forgot to mention the car has a power steering problem too. It feels just like it has no power steering at all, don't know if its related or not but its there, please help me out. Thanks.

Hi michoacan,

Thank you for the donation.

I can't seems to find the description for P1775. Others are as described in the diagram.

Based on the description, most of the problems seems to stem from faulty wiring or mechanicals and not from the TCM.

I would suggest checking the wire harness, especially at transmission end. Check for loose, contaminated or dislodged wire connectors.

I have the wiring schematics here which would be needed for diagnostics.
