Smells problem
2000 Jaguar XJ8 V8 Automatic 95629 miles

Hello,
Our jag is smoking. When you start it and the car is running for about 5 -10 minutes you smell like something burning, smells like oil burning. When we open the hood there is smoking on either side of the engine. We're told by the person we bought it from that we don't drive it that much and once we drive it the smoking will disappear. HELP!!!

A common problem. You need valve cover gaskets on both sides. You can somewhat alleviate the problem until you replace them by carefully cleaning the manifolds below the valve covers when the car is stone cold. You'll find the largest concentration of oil is at the rear end of these manifolds, since the engine sits at a slight downward angle.
