1998 Jaguar XJ8 heater blew cold/ warm.

Heater blew cool and then warm. After a few min. The cooling gage went fron 1/2 to h and the red light came on that I was overheating. Pulled over, added some prestone and drove another 100 miles with no problems. What do you think?
