1997 Jaguar XJ6 are these cars reliable

This is a rather difficult question to answer. Normally a well maintained Jag should be very reliable. They do have a few vices, such as Engine & transmission oil leaks, but over all there not to bad. It is impossible to judge an individual car via this medium, so if you like the car, feel comfortable with the way it drives and handles. Get an independent written report and inspection done, if the seller has nothing to hide they should not object, a few dollars spent now, may save a lot more later.
