Is there a filter in the a/c air intake sys?

Yes there is. It is located on the passenger side below the wiper cowl. If you are having odor issues, change that and whille your in there purchase a evaporator/heater cleaner from the parts store. Follow the instuctions to clean the mildew from the evaporator and replace the filter.
