As I bring my Jaguar XKR to a stop, a "click" can be heard just before the car stops, My car is now under warranty that expires on 07/27/08. I brought the car in to the local Jaguar dealer that acts as the agent for the warranty firm in diagnosing problems and making repairs.

The rep at the Jaguar dealer told me that their service department agrees that there is a click but to determine what is wrong will require taking the car apart and showing an inpsector for the warranty company what is wrong and causing the click. (Total approximate cost to take car apart and put back together - $1,000) They also said that, even though they can hear the click, if they take the car apart, they may not be able to find what is causing the problem and thus, will not be able to show anythng specific to the inspector.

I told the Jaguar rep to have the warranty firm's inpspector come and lisiten to the cllick so there is no issue that there is a problem. He told me that they will not do this. He also recommended that in light of how minor the click is, that I not spend $ now to investigate the problem because it will likely be a long time before it ever becomes an issiue that requires repair. If I do nothing now, my warranty is going to run out.

A local mechanic that I spoke to thinks that the source of the click is a differential that is starting to go and will get progressively worse. I have reviiewed my extended warranty agreement and am sure that problems with the differential are covered by the warranty.

I feel as though I am being set up and here are the questions that I have. Since a click can be heard every time the car come to a stop, is it likely that the Jaguar service department will not find anything? Is this really an argument for not doing anything while the car is still under warranty? Finally, is it reasonable for the warranty company to refuse to have the inspector come before the car is taken apart so the inpsector can verify that there is defintiely a problem?

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks very much.

Hi Bill,

If the click is very minor, it is not going to be easy to see any fault after disassembly.

The source needs to be verified and confirmed so that upon disassembly, the people doing it knows what and where to look for.

How this click is going affect or develop is anybody's guess as we have no inkling of the source.

Make some noise at the dealership and warranty company and let them sweat for an answer as the vehicle is still under warranty now.
