I do not mean to insult you or anything here, but have you checked the dimmer switch to make sure that it is not switched off? I ask this because I cannot count the number of times that my wife, my mom, or various other people have made the same mistake. The switch is #13 in the first image below.
If that is not the issue, then we will have to check the dimmer switch to make sure that it is functioning properly. Check images 2 - 5 below for instructions on removal and re-installation.
If my understanding of this switch is correct, which it may not be because I have not actually worked on it before, you should be able to probe the connections with a multi-meter. You will have to ground the negative lead to either the frame or the negative battery terminal. Then stick the other (positive) lead in to the connector with the brown and white wire. Then, with the key on, you should see the voltage go up and down as you move the switch up and down. Simple as that. So start there and let me know what happens. We will go from there.
