Hi, I have a friend, she broke down on a parking outside a market. Her ignition would not turn. So she knew an electrician and call him over. Unfortunately the electrician I know him and he has no knowledge in Immobilizer system. So he broke the electric motor thinking that ignition will turn and car will start. No luck ignition turns, no starting. So now electrician guy advises the lady to contact someone whose into car electronics and Immobilizer. Guy comes read dump from ECU, read dump from Immobilizer box (93c56 ECU. 93lc66 Immobilizer box), well key was good, he made another one, but car will not start, guys leave ECU dump with ffff for both boxes. Now she contacts me, she forgot I was in car electronics (shes old). Manage to get back 2 dumps from forum with 4c new code, write it down with zedfull, still no start. Scan the car P1601, was there when she broke down.I Can comm with ecu, live data working, but no communication with Immobilizer box. I can get second Immobilizer box, and make new key. Ignition lock not avail, will car start even the lock hasn't got the motor. Does it work like merc with hashes, I doubt so is 4c tp.W/o motor will car start -2nd Immobilizer box, new key, new dump ECU. Your advice much appreciated, as she is old and lonely I need to help her. Please need advice. Thanks

Welcome to 2CarPros.

First, this vehicle isn't offered in the US, so I have very limited technical information. I have a few questions. Is the starter engaging? I ask because the code you included, P1601 is related to a crankshaft position sensor issue (low voltage). If it isn't cranking, that has nothing to do with the problem.

Let me know.

Yes, starter cranks rpm is about 250-300 when cranking, on these Toyota you have like smart entry system where you can turn only the ignition lock, or can insert the key to turn on the car. The ignition lock wasn't turning which means it was an immobilizer issue. So someone dismantle the electric motor which fits on the ignition lock mechanism, by doing so it allows the car to crank but will enable the immobilizer on, where a no spark from s. Plugs , the ecu has locked itself due to immobilizer active and block the drivers for the coils. What I wanted to know as this car is 2000-2003 same model 998cc EJ-VE engine is the motor on the lock coded like esl type, the motor is like a 12 v electric small motor fitted to many stuff ie battery powered miniature cars with track. When I scan I can talk to the ECU, key is good, I have zedfull 2 check, I cannot talk with the immobilizer box, my point is that is its dead, 12v and minus present, reason why ignition was locked. If I replace the smart-key assembly control and clone it, will the esl (motor) prevent the car from starting) it is not an esl with eeprom inside or Mcu mormal 12v-6v electric motor, thanks your idea mostly welcome. (I have to import the immobilizer box from uk and its 150 pounds, ). Or I will rest ecu with synchro, make new key from imported immobilizer box, as ori immobilizer box dump has been erased by some cowboy locksmith. Thanks regards, we keep learning. This is how ignition lock looks, same with Toyota only this ignition lock has no smart-key system, but identical with a white motor which engaged and disengaged if key is correct id matched with immobilizer box and ECU. Hope this has clarify you. Regards
Jason.

I wish I had more information on my end because I'm not sure what should be done next on this vehicle.

Well this was a similar answer I gave to customer because someone messed up the car. Wasn't his job according to me it is the customers fault 50% and 50% the cowboy electrician. When you don't know a car how it works research first, don't make as if its like the other cars, previous one, etc. Get the books out and read. Very sad to say, can't do much because can't find a complete kit for duet, but for sirion, storia its international brand name there are complete kits, but 1 part is totally different, the immobilizer box, original has 2 plugs, storia 1 plug, thta extra plug is for the electric lock, which other models same make and engine don't use the electric lock. How can I take full responsibility whether the car will start or not, 1st need to purchase the kit $400.00 usd, customer is willing to give the cash but if car doesn't start. I must refund, not my piece of cake friends of 2CarPros. Thanks very much for everything. I will comeback this time a different car, not to worry. Respect. Jason from Mauritius.
