Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor location

Hello, I got a check engine light in my car so I plugged in my code scanner and it came back with the code P0325 so I bought a Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor from the auto parts store. I am trying to find out where exactly it's located on my car engine so I can replace it. Can anyone help please?

Clearly the sensor would be the common cause but if this is not it, let us know and we can get further in to the diagnosis.

The sensor was replaced and it ran fine for a few hours then the same code appeared again. To clarify, it's not the only the check engine light that appears on my car. The car throws out an 'engine reduced power' and the 'service traction control' message. When I plug in the computer I get the P0325 - Knock/combustion vibration sensor A circuit and a P1682 - Driver 5 Line 2. I replaced the knock sensor, I changed my spark plugs, I changed both intake/exhaust VVT camshaft solenoid sensors. I'm a little bit lost?

An update: The check engine light appears, the car gives a reduced power and service traction control message but the P0325 code is gone. The only code that displays now on the code scanner is P1682 - Driver 5 Line 2. Any thoughts?

I am attaching the testing info on this code. It is basically telling you that there is a circuit issue. Either it is a wiring issue, ECM issue, or a possible relay issue.

P1682 - Ignition 1 switch circuit 2

Let's go through this info and let me know what questions you have. I understand the confusion but this code is going to cause the reduced power so I suspect if we fix this then it will cure the issue.

Okay, thank you. At least its narrowed down. I have a ancel 410 scanning tool so what should I look for first. Also, I noticed the notes on screenshot 5 show that the voltage is passed through the circuit by a fuse. Is it as simple as checking if a fuse has gone bad and if that's the case, is there a way to tell which fuse it is?

I am not sure that scan tool has the ability to monitor the needed info. Take a look at the wiring diagram which I highlighted the circuit that is involved.

Then on the second screen shot is the testing that we need to do. Basically it is asking to make sure the circuit is not open so a blown fuse would make sense. The underhood fuse block, Fuse 16 is what we need to check.

Okay I understand. I went ahead, opened the hood, the fuse box and I checked fuse 16 based on the diagram, on the car and it looks fine.

Okay. Then follow that wire that is highlighted and go to the ECM and check power to see if you have 12 volts at the ECM. If not, we have a wiring issue or some other issue preventing voltage to get to the ECM like the relay.

Yes. You will need to use a multimeter so that you can see the voltage.

It took me awhile to have all those things checked out. I took it to a mechanic, I told him everything and he examined it. After checking it, the wire connections are fine, connections to the ECM are fine but according to his machine it appears that the BCM at certain points in time fails to communicate to other parts in the car and that's what's causing the car to go into 'limp' mode. The BCM was replaced in that car from another Saturn of the same model but after we put it in, the odometer stopped counting miles and froze into place so I wasn't sure if it needed to be programmed, but that was last year. So he told me to scrap it and get a new car given that they don't make parts for that car anymore. What's your advice?

Unfortunately the BCM cannot be reprogrammed to another vehicle. The reason the mileage stopped counting is because it is mismatching the original. You are not able to swap these parts. Take a look at the attachment that explains this.

Unfortunately your options are locating a company that will repair your original BCM for the issue that it has. There are many companies out there that do this sort of thing but I am not sure if they will do this specific module. Also, you may be able to find someone that sells a used module that is blank and so you are able to program it to this vehicle.
