I purchased my 2013 Holden Captiva last year through a car yard , my elderly father found it as we were at different ends of the state he didn't think to get a mechanic to check, car yard ect , any how Jan this year I heard a knocking noise I had a tire arm replaced a month later noise still there , took to a mate who's a registered mechanic was told yep diff and trans , I wasn't convinced he also noticed a broken engine mount bottom , that had been broken but welded back together , any way a few weeks later I myself and my partner who are both mechanically sound put it on the hoist fair enough the engine mount was welded too high so it had moment and we then imminently took it to another mechanic and yes due to the previous owners dodgy fix up it had put strain on all 4 mounts and all the drive train so we of course fixed the issue , also may I add it was regularly serviced. all fixed happy days I drove it home to my partners 20 min away the next morning it wouldn't start ok then I had warning lights everywhere , called my mechanic when open , was told common fault ill send a auto electrician , 10 min yes the car was running but I was informed when the mechanic was inspecting there was a lot of wires dodgied up with cable ties ect , ok took it back more money . due to all this and my area we purchased another car to save my job , I was fired . any how I have driven it a handful of times but still engine light , took it back multiple codes most of the same as before , now before it went to mechanics it ran perfectly and under the hood was perfect wires ect. not once have I been told its not this its not that so you could imagine my frustration and its now hard to trust anyone to actually tell me the truth , when I took it to my mechanic in regards to the engine codes , no inspection was done to test any of the reasons behind these codes just a scan tool and I was sent away being told you have 2 options 3-4 grand more to fix the issues or strip it and try and get some money for parts ,
I've had this type of car before, I am aware they don't have a good history but honestly if they are regularly serviced and looked after any car can be great. and I come from a mechanical family. so it was left up to me to figure it all out what I don't understand is it honestly runs perfectly doesn't skip a beat no different colored smoke , no missing or power surging , and then on further inspection of the photos I took of the code reading tool I'm confused as I was told these are all the codes it has but all but 2 have stated beside the code
since dtc clear - passed and failed
last test - passed
this ignition cycle - passed
I'm confused ??? does this mean its okay when I was told other wise please help me , I shouldn't have been sent home like this . personally my mechanic you would have thought given there wasn't anything mechanically wrong would have said ok something isn't right bring it back in straight away , I understand accidents happen , is being honest not a thing . I don't want to strip it or sell it to someone I'm to honest .
but loosing my job as a single income family I'm at a complete loss .
thanks for listening .
happy to supply the scan tool did pics if it helps
