When I put my car in drive, the dashboard lights where the drive gear is starts to blinking as does the chronometer in the cd player. Do I have a short or a bad flasher?

It sounds like a bad ground. Have you checked for bad body grounds? Also, does the vehicle have a factory alarm?

Let me know.

Well your perceptions seem to be accurate. Now that it has gotten warmer, the blinking has stopped. No there is no alarm installed on the car.I'm going to clean the ground behind the fuse box and ck connections going to it. There is however a black wire hanging down from the wire harness and have no idea where it goes to or why it is just hanging there
thanks

Is there any type of connector at the end of the black wire? Also, use a volt meter to see if there is any power going through it. If there isn't chances are it is a ground.

Let me know.
