2004 Hyundai Santa Fe check engine light/bad performance at

The check engine light came on awhile back and after filling gas tank it went off. A week later it has come on again and the motor is like sputtering at 50 mph

What did you do to fix this? Mine stated doing the same thing today. I'm assuming it may be the fuel filter needs to be changed.
