2001 Other Hyundai Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

I have a 2001 Santro (right-handed steering). Lately I have noticed a dull clunking sound that seems to come from somewhere under the vehicle or the boot while turning right or over bad roads (especially potholes/craters) - not sure which, as a lot of places I turn right happen to be roughly paved. I am also not able to pin-point the exact direction of the sound. Doesn't *seem* to be coming from the front though I could be wrong. It sounds as if something is moving in the boot but on checking found nothing that produces that clunk (its kind of metallic but very dull). Sounds like something hollow.A low "thunk thunk thunk" or a couple of low "thunks" while recovering from a pothole driving straight. Any ideas what could be wrong?

HI there,

I feel that it is a case of having all the suspension bushes inspected and the struts for poor operation, often if you back off all the suspension nuts and re tighten you take up the slack and often you can eliminate this type of suspension noise, but you must re tighten the suspension with weight on the unit or it will ware out the bush's quickly, best to get your mechanic to do this job.
