My question is, should the over drive button be on all the time or just over 55 mph and if it is on all the time does this hurt anything?

I am hoping the above answerer just misread your question. Just leave the OD on all the time. First if you need to pass someone going up a hill, simply give push the accelerator down far enough and the transmission will automatically downshift to give you more power, and up shift once you have passed. No buttons to press. Secondly, Accents are notorious for having their OD button go bad. The button is only there for a few occasions when you might not want to go into overdrive, for instance you have the car loaded to near capacity and are driving up the side of a mountain interstate. The car will provide enough power to climb and get up to speed, but once it upshifts into OD you may start to lose speed due to the taller gearing. This causes the transmission to downshift again, speed up again and restart the cycle. This is sometimes referred to as "hunting". Main idea is just leave the OD on.
