1996 Hyundai Accent Hesitates and idles rough

Ok. When I get the car to 2500 rpms and to 3700 rpms some times it hesitates or acts like its going to die but I push harder on the gas and its fine. It idles at 750 but it shakes and is very rough droping to 450 then idles up to 1200 and higer. It has a racing muffler on it ( bought it that way 5 days ago ). Didnt start the hesitation till I filled the gas tank. Also how difficult would it be to repace the univ joints or CV boots myself?

Any sugestions.

I would suggest taking it to parts house and have them run the codes. If you have an Autozone take it there. Then you will know what it is doing. If they tell you that it is missfireing then do a compression test. I have a 2002 and it done the same thing. Found two cyl. Misfireing done compression test and found one cyl. Had no compression. Pulled the head and found a burnt valve. I hope this helps.
