Get a copy of the manufacturer's service manual and read through the pages of instructions. If you are referring to the steering gear, those are fairly easy to replace on some vehicles, and they are extremely difficult on others. The vehicle will need to be aligned afterward.
You can also buy a subscription to an online service manual from AllData or Mitchell-On-Demand. Those include everything found in the manufacturer's manuals, plus service bulletins, recall notices, and diagnostic tips.
