How to test the crankshaft and camshaft sensors with a multimeter

How do you test the camshaft sensor and crankshaft with a multimeter?

You cannot. Those sensors have circuitry inside. You cannot measure resistance through that. To test if those sensors are developing signals, you need a scanner to view live data. Each sensor will be listed with an indication telling if the signal is getting to the Engine Computer.

If you have an oscilloscope, you can use that to look at the signals on the two signal wires. As a former TV repairman, I have multiple oscilloscopes, but I have never tried to use one for this purpose. Letting the scanner talk to the Engine Computer is so fast and easy, I would never bother with an oscilloscope.

Cam sensors can be tested with a multi-meter.
