A mechanic has told me I need a computer and he does not program them so I have to take it somewhere else or do it myself.

I saw on eBay people selling computers pre-programmed. They say you give them your VIN number and they send it pre-programmed for your car. I am not sure if that works. I am assuming that means I can put it in and not have to go to the dealership to have it programmed, right?

So, if that is real, I assume I could just replace it myself. Does anybody know how hard that is? Does anyone have any instructions or diagrams? Or videos?

You can do that but you will still have to do a security system relearn before it will start but the computer should come with instructions on how to do that. You can do that part yourself.
