Take a look at the block where the starter bolts on, there will be two codes there. The short code tells you the year the block was cast and the longer code tells you what the engine is and what it came out of. Then you need to look at the heads and see if those match the block.
Find those numbers/letters and either post them here or just search Ford Casting Number Decoding online.
Even then you will still need to be careful getting parts because there are probably a lot of parts on that which did not come on the engine you have. That is the nature of hot rodding.
The VIN would be useless for this. VIN numbers prior to 1981 were not standardized and didn't exist before 1953-4 anyway. As this is a modified vehicle it probably does not have a manufacturers VIN but one assigned by the DMV or the inspector when it was finally built and on the road.
