Harder steering effort in one direction.

Hi. I wonder if you could help me with a problem that is giving me trouble?

Im located in Spain and I am finding it very difficult to get tustworthy advice from anywhere.

The car I have is a rover, but it is basically a honda concerto, the steering rack is the same part, I believe the honda civic is also the same from 1994.

The car is a Rover 220 Gsi 1994 hatchback car. It is a 2 litre none turbo engine.

I had my power steering rack changed for a reconditioned unit since the old one was beginning to leak slightly from the inner seals.
Before it was changed, it performed perfectly, however, when it was returned, ot steered in one direction easier than the other.

The centre it was purchased from were reluctant to exchange the unit but eventually agreed, however, when it was fitted, it now has the same problem only in reverse (its easier to turn in the direction opposite to before)

Is it possible the problem is not in the steering rack but somewhere else? I dont personally see how, but then Im not an expert, you guys are!

I have attached a picture of a steering rack from a similar car, it is not the EXACT one, though it is exactly the same type.

If you can, I would really appreciate any help that you can offer me.

Thankyou so much,

Jon.

I believe you got another bad rack

You may want to consider getting one from the dealer on this one. The aftermarket rebuilders have trouble with the honda racks.

Get the number from the supplier of the the remanufacturer. Talk to them.

Talk to the supplier and ask them if youhave the car evaluated by a 3rd party and it turns out to be diagnosed as a bad rack, if they are willing to pay for the diagnosis, the first replacemnt labor and the second replacement labor.

Thanks Paul, I will try to talk to them, last time they tried to fob me off by suggesting my power steering pump must be faulty (without even seeing the car, never mind the pump) My Spanish isnt the best so it gives them the upper hand.
Thanks again,

Jon.
