Honda CRV stalling problem

I have a 99 Honda CRV with 84,000 miles on it. It is a 4 cylinder, with manual transmission. I bought it a year ago and I do not have any history on it. For the last month or so it has been stalling occasionally when I slow down or come to a stop. Last week, it starting occuring more frequently, the engine light came on, and it started running rough.
I took it to a repair shop. They did a fuel flush, changed spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter. It was no better. Now I am told one of cylinders needs replacing and that the car is only running on 3 cylinders. Would this make it stall at low speeds? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it would. Dragging a dead cylinder is hard work. Now why is it dead. That is the question. Have a leak down test performed to tell you what is wrong. Pretty darn cheap. Have you check to see that the plugs are ALL getting spark? You could have a power pack that is bad. Does this one have a distributor?
