Computer problem
1997 Honda CRV 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

Hi there? My above car has been giving a trouble code indicating idle air control circuit failure. Two auto electricians have been unable to sort it out. They say the computer is producing very low current to turn open the magnetic iac valve. What is the best solution to this problem?
they have suggested tightening of the accelerator cable to allow more air-fuel mixture or connecting the iac directly to the battery both of which will result in high fuel consumption. Please help.

thanks alot

Hi dicksonmichatha,

What is the trouble code that you are getting?

Adjusting the throttle cable is not going to work as the idling would be erratic.

Connecting the IAC to the battery would result in high idling speed, maybe more than 2000 rpm.

Was the IAC replaced? Was the ECM checked for burnouts on the printed circuit board?

I am getting p014 iac valve circuit failure which means low or no current able to turn the magnetic part of the iac.
We didnt replace the iac because we tested it on direct power and its working. The code is actually showing that when connected to the ecm its not giving out enough current to open the iac.
Looks like the answer could be in your last item since we have not checked for burnouts on the printed circuit board. How do we do this?Taking it out and then checking out if any of the chips need to be soldiered back? Please explain in greater detail.
The funny thing about this problem is that it only occurs when the car has been left undriven for say 4 hours but after starting and revving the problem disappears but the idling is still very erratic.
Thanks and waiting to hear from you

It should be Code 14 or P1508. P codes are 4 digit codes. 2 digit codes are derived from bridging the SCS circuit.

Here are the diagnostics procedures.
