When you are driving, your motor is revving higher than at idle and your a/c works better. Possible causes are: Loose a/c belt, low a/c charge, loose or worn out a/c clutch. Some of these you can check yourself--there is also an a/c sight glass on these systems, very tiny, usually on top of the dryer. With your a/c on at idle, if you see little bubbles in the sight glass, your system is low on charge. Good luck.
