My entire fan system quit blowing the other day in my 97 Civic LX; I couldn't get any air to blow at all, so initially I was afraid the fan unit was blown or not getting power. I checked all the fuses & what I learned was called the relays or larger fuses. As I was checking out the larger fuses in the box under the hood, the fan started blowing again, but only for a while and then it quit the next day. Since I didn’t change anything or relay permanently, I went and bought new relays and fuses for the car and tried new ones, but it didn’t fix the problem. I'm unsure what to do at this point, but it does seem to be electrical and isolated to the fan itself. I can tell when I turn on the A/C button that it's drawing power from the engine so I know the A/C part is Ok and the problem is with the fan, but how can I tell if it's the fan not working or if it's a short or power problem getting to power to the fan? Is there any reason that it may have worked last night and then quit working or could it be on it's last leg, because it does seem like I'm just not getting power somewhere to it or its a short?
How can I check the unit to ensure that the power is getting to the fan or locate a possible short in the system like this & where do I even look for the main fan? I've purchased a Multi-Meter unit since I've seen a few items on here where you told people to ensure that 12Volts were going to the fan, but how do I check this to see if the amount of power is going to the right places, can you explain? I think this is a simple fix and would like to avoid any costly repair if it’s any easy fix.
Thanks.
