Suspension problem
2002 Honda City Two Wheel Drive Manual 160k miles

I have got a problem with my car. One day when I give throttle it goes to right in smaller gear.

I went to technician and he said the whole suspension will be replaced he changed the shocks, lower arms and complete axels but there was no improvement. After that he changed the rack ends. The problem is somehow removed.
Now the problem is that when I drive my car its goes here and there on the road. The staring is very tight where as it has power staring. During the overtake I move the staring little left it stays there and car start moving to left and when I push it back it starts going to right. It’s not satiable.

Then I went to another technician. He advised me to change the lower arms again. He changed the lower arms, rack ends, and the complete staring but it did not make even a millimeter difference. Now he is telling me that the power staring pump is out of order. Please advise me what should I do now?

Hi hulkashraf,

Since you have replaced almost all of the suspension system, get the steering U joint between the column and rack checked. If the U joint is bad, the steering would be stiff.

For steering to be stiff, apart from those mentioned, were the strut mounts checked?

For the City, it is MacPherson struts so the mounts are equipped with bearings.

Hi KHLow2008,

I will check that with my technician. Sir can you send me a picture of the mount because I am not a technical person to explain to my technician.
The U joint that has bearings are free and without play this is what he checked.

Go back to the basics.

1. Check Steering rack free play adjustment.
2. Lower arm ball joints. ( Were parts replaced new or used?)
3. Strut mounts. Were they replaced ( new?) Or checked?

HI KHLow2008

The Parts I replaced were used ones. But when the problem was still there I replaced rack end and lower arms with new ones but did not get even milimeter difference. Shocks were still used ones but replaced with the old ones. The hubs are quite free.
When I start the car the stearing is free and easy to move but when it's running over the Road it stiffs!
Please help

Regards!

When the steering stiffens while running, it indicates a fault with the steering rack.

Our database does not have the information for your vehicle so I am not able to determine the system used. Is it hydraulic or Electronic Power Assist ( EPA )?

If it is EPA, then you might be able to retrieve trouble codes.

If it is hydraulic, you would need to get the steering rack valve body checked.
