My car has a little over 30,000 miles and is a 4cyl. In the last month there is a metal scrapping and high pitched noise whenever I brake. I took my car in for the 30,000 mile service and told my mechanic about the noise and he said it's just overheating and not to worry about it. The noise seems to be getting louder and it just doesn't seem that I should ignore it. What should I do?

A second opinion in this case would not hurt.
Go to a good tire store and get the free inspection!
Brakes are saftey, don't mess around here!

Hi there,
I would go find a mechanic who will cater for your needs. If you have an issue with your brakes they should do a full inspection and report. Now if they have just had a look and said that they are overheating, why are they over heated and if so the hot spots on the rotors whould be machined or replaced if undersize. May disc pads have a metal tab indicator that rubs on the rotor when the pads are due to be replaced, this is a safty device so that you don't run out of brakes totaly. Now if they have only looked through the wheel slots and not fully inspected the pads, these tabs could be causing the noise. What ever the reason have your brakes inspected ASAP better to be safe than sorry.
