1998 Honda Accord gages turn off

I can be driving the car and all of a sudden the gages will go down to 0 and hte car feel like it shuts off. Or if not gages drop and the car does shut off and I have to pull over and hen I try to turn it back on it give me a problem to turn on than after a few mins of trying it goes on than I can drive again. My mechanic thought it was the fuel pump and that didnt wrok after trying 3 times and I just gave it a tune up and I get my oil checked all the time please help

Hi marif,

Thsi seem more like an electrical problem and is caused by power interruption.

I would suggest checking the ignition switch.

No, the EGR would affect performance but not the dash gauges.

But the car losses power and shut off and the gages drop

The EGR would not cause the engine to stall.

When gauges stops working, there are 2 different situation.

1. Did the gauges stop working because the engine stalled? If this is the case, we would need to check what is causing the engine to stall, the gauges are not an indicator of anything.

2. If they stopped working due to power interruption, the most likely cause would be the ignition switch or its wire connections.

Did you try to retrieve for trouble codes?
