1996 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I just went in for my emissions test and passed. Drove home about 3 miles away. Two hours later I get in the car and about 1/4 mile down the road the check engine light comes on and and I notice that the engine is running rough (feels like it is about to stall out unless I keep the rpms up). Could the emission's center have caused this? I just find it too coincidental that it was fine when I took it in and then the light starts coming on.

First of all thank you so much for your donation. It could just be coincidental unless they did something to it to get it to pass which is very unlikely. If you go to a auto part's store like auto zone and get your code's read and post your number's of the code's we can go from there.

Ok I got the code it is P0500. It is apparently related to a speed indicator and it somehow tied into the transmission.

My speedometer and odometer also don't work and unless I keep the rpms up the engine feels as though it is about to stall.

The Autozone technician said a transmission repair place would be necessary to replace the part.

Does this all sound correct? Anything else I should know?

I emailed you the trouble tree for code p0500 if the speedometer doesn't work then it should be pretty easy to find the problem since the problem is happening all the time. Also which engine do you have?Is it a vtech?Let me know so I can get you the information of where the speed sensor is.
