Engine Performance problem
1996 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

1. My honda accord, 1996, has two temperature sensors(or are they switches) on the cooling line. What are thier functions?
2. If I use my a/c, my car runs ok. But when I put off the a/c it does overheat. Why?
3. How do I know if my air vacuum switch is working properly?
4. My fuel consumption seems to be on the air side. What are the possible causes and remedies?

Thanks

Hi basoenek,

There are up to 4 sensors installed on the cooling system.

1. Temperature sending unit, for the temperature gauge.
2. ECT sensor. For the computer control.
3. Fan switch. For operating the fan switch relay to work the cooling fans when engine is running.
4. Fan switch B. For working the cooling fans when ignition switch is turned off and tempearture is high.

Overheating when AC is not used means the fans are not working when requuired and could be a fualt with the fan switch or relays.

What air vacumn switch are you referring to?

Fuel consumption increase can be due to many factors. Get the engine tuned.
