Engine Performance problem
1994 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My 1994 Honda Accord EX runs great until I stop or decelerate to stop; the car shuts off, I put it in parked and it fires up without a problem.

Hi shat1a,

If the idling speed is too low, the problem would occur. Try readjusting it.

I have changed the sparkplugs. Wires, rotor, and distributor cap; the car idles at about 500 at operating temperature. I have tried adjsuting the idle screw but the rpm is not changing (the mfg info under the hood states the idle should be @ 700 +50).

After performing the tuneup, the car does not shut off when decelerating any more. Now whenever I turn on the ac the engine shuts off.

What am I doing wrong with adjusting the idle? The instructions I followed stated to start car to operating temp; unplug eacv; adjust screw; remove fuse; turn car off; plug eacv; insert fuse; start car.

You did not do anything wrong. The throttle body and IAC are dirty restricting the mount of air going past the idle adjust screw and IAC. Get them cleaned and retest.
