Shift lock engages when car is started and won't allow car to come out of park until you put a key in the shift lock to unlock it.

When you step on the brake pedal do you hear any clicking noise. If you dont it is possible that you have a bad brake pedal switch. In order for the car to shift out of park it has to see the brake pedal applied. Test to see if the switch is good or bad.
